COSLINE Cosmetics is committed to fighting animal testing
Animal testing on cosmetic products has not been permitted in Germany since 1998. Animal testing on cosmetics has been banned in the EU since 2004. In addition, there has been a ban on the introduction of cosmetics and their ingredients tested on animals in the EU since March 2013.
COSLINE products are manufactured by companies, suppliers and subcontractors based in Germany and Italy. COSLINE products are manufactured in accordance with the above-mentioned laws and regulations with "Made in Germany" quality. Consequently, our finished cosmetic products are not tested on animals and we do not commission any animal testing for individual raw materials.
Why is there no mention of “cruelty-free” anywhere?
What many people don't know: If a cosmetic product is manufactured in Germany, it is a given that it is produced without animal testing. This is because there is the above-mentioned legal obligation to refrain from animal testing, which every cosmetic manufacturer in the EU must equally comply with. Since this is a matter of course, it cannot be advertised in the EU. Advertising with the keywords "cosmetics without animal testing" or "cruelty-free" could create the impression that other manufacturers conduct animal testing and thus deceive consumers about a criterion relevant to the purchase decision that is actually a matter of course. COSLINE Cosmetics must therefore refrain from advertising with these keywords, otherwise we would risk a warning. We have always complied with the legal requirements and will continue to do so.
Although German law and European regulations prohibit the conduct of animal testing on cosmetic products, this does not rule out the possibility that individual raw materials in cosmetics have been tested on animals at some point. These tests may have been carried out decades ago. Some raw materials in cosmetics are subject to chemical regulations and must even be tested on animals at least once for safety reasons. In principle, no cosmetic product can claim to be completely free of animal testing. Brands that claim to be "cruelty-free" are not being entirely honest with their customers. We, on the other hand, want to be open about the topic, inform our customers about the facts and thus create more transparency.
How is COSLINE Cosmetics committed to combating animal testing? We look to the future and actively campaign against animal testing. What exactly do we do?
1. COSLINE Cosmetics does not test finished cosmetic products on animals and does not commission any animal testing for individual raw materials.
2. We support the SET Foundation, which aims to limit animal testing and replace it with alternatives. The foundation supports projects that research alternative and complementary methods to animal testing. You can find more information about the foundation at SET Foundation .
You can take action against animal testing by paying attention to where your cosmetic products are manufactured. If they are manufactured in the EU, they are automatically subject to the EU Cosmetics Regulation and animal testing is prohibited. If they are produced outside the EU, they may have been tested on animals. In some countries, such as China, it is even legally required for decorative cosmetics to be tested on animals. In the USA, animal testing is permitted. Therefore, you should find out exactly where the products are manufactured before you buy and use them.
If you want to make animal testing unnecessary in the long term, you can support research into alternative methods by donating to the SET Foundation . This way, animal testing can be abolished in the long term not only in cosmetics, but also in other areas such as personal care, pharmaceuticals and cleaning products.
